MalloMe Mess Kit Review: Camping Cookware

It can be tempting when camping from a vehicle to bring everything in your kitchen, just short of the proverbial kitchen sink. But weight and compactness are still very important when choosing gear for overlanding and car camping.

One of the most important pieces of gear you’ll need on your overlanding adventures is cookware. To keep your cargo manageable, your cookware needs to be compact, lightweight, and versatile, which makes cook sets designed for camping a great option. MalloMe Mess Kit is a lightweight, easy-to-pack, and very affordable camping cookware set that meets those criteria.

MalloMe Mess Kit

The MalloMe Mess Kit has thousands of reviews and a high rating on Amazon. The non-toxic anodized aluminum camping cook set is not only compact and durable but is relatively lightweight and stores easily. It’s important to pick a cookware set that conducts heat well.

The MalloMe set does a great job, and it will save you fuel and speed up your cooking time. It’s a very affordable cookware set, running around $20 as we write this. We recommend you avoid the even cheap knock-offs that are flooding the market. Many cookware sets currently being sold will not last long and are just not reliable.

If you have a family, ideally, each parent should have one MalloMe cookware set in their bag. Though useful, size is a constraint here and you’ll need two sets to prepare a meal for a family of four. The pot and pan in each set are fairly small. If you are planning to travel and camp for a long period of time, or like to cook large one-pan meals, you may want to invest in a large cookware set. One nice thing about the size of the MalloMe Mess Kit though is that you could also use it for backpacking trips — if that’s your jam.

The foldable fork and bamboo spoons that accompany this set are lightweight and sturdy. There’s a small sponge that’s included for washing the cookware. However, you’d be better off buying a bigger and more durable sponge and pack that with this mess kit. The sponge that’s included is probably only good for 2 or 3 washes.

MalloMe Mess Kit

The MalloMe cookware set has 10 pieces:

  • Anodized Aluminum Nonstick Pot (1 Liter Capacity)
  • Pot Cove
  • Nonstick Pan
  • 2 BPA Free Bowls
  • Folding Stainless Steel Spork
  • BPA Free Soup Spoon
  • Wooden Spoon Spatula
  • Cleaning Sponge
  • Nylon Travel Bag Drawstring Pouch

A lot of thought has gone into creating the MalloMe Mess Kit. Most campers will appreciate the compact nature of this kit and how all the items collapse neatly and can be easily stored.

It’s easy to use and the perfect size for overland kitchen. It’s important to note that while the cookware set is excellent, you can’t just leave it on the stove unattended while doing other chores.

The wind outdoors could fan the flames and burn the handles of this set. This is an issue that some people faced when using mess kitt. You’ll need to know where the handles are in relation to the heat source. That said, when cooking outdoors, one should NEVER leave the flame unattended.

The MalloMe camping cookware set is very affordable and a good choice for compact camping cookware. While you may have pre-packaged meals that are ready to eat, you’ll still need a cookware set to heat your food or boil water for a nice cup of coffee. This set will easily allow you to do that quickly and conveniently.
