Roam Releases The Desperado: New Wedge-Style Rooftop Tent

Overland gear maker, Roam Adventure Company, recently unveiled the Desperado, a two-person wedge-style rooftop tent that the company claims takes less than 30 seconds to assemble, allowing campers to make the most of their time outdoors.

Roam’s first wedge-style tent, the hardshell Desperado comes with some attractive features that will likely make it a contender in the roof-top tent market.

The tent, which retails for $3,499, features a 2.75-inch high-density foam mattress is included, offering a comfortable sleeping surface after a day on the trail. At 80 inches long by 49 inches wide, the mattress can comfortably fit two adults – maybe 3 in a pinch.

The Desperado’s integrated roof rack holds cargo on the top of the tent.

The tent comes with an integrated roof rack that enables users to secure the company’s storage cases or other equipment to the top of the tent. This is a nice feature that you don’t see on many hardshell tents and offers the possibility of carrying surfboards, kayaks and bikes.

The Desperado features some innovative gear storage and organization features, with an overhead panel for smaller items and external boot bags to maintain a clean interior. The overhead panel also features a clear pocket for holding a tablet or phone for nighttime entertainment.

Additional features of the Desperado rooftop tent include:

  2. LED light strip: The tent includes an LED light strip that can be plugged into a battery bank for nighttime lighting. Battery pack not included.
  3. Boot bags: A boot bag slides into a channel under the tent, providing a place to store dirty shoes outside the tent.
  4. Articulating hinge: The tent has an internal articulating hinge that provides an extra 10 inches of foot space for added comfort. This also allows for a window on the hinge side of the tent, which is rare for wedge-style tents.
