Overview
The Arka is Winnebago's first adventure-truck-camper, built on a Ram 5500 4×4 with the 6.7L Cummins diesel and 8-speed automatic. It launches as a 2027 model with a single floorplan, the 20Z, at 26'7" overall, sleeping four and seating six. Winnebago lists a fully equipped configuration at $331,901, roughly a third the cost of a fully kitted EarthCruiser, which positions it inside the Backcountry Series alongside the Revel and Ekko rather than against the custom expedition builders.
The defining design choice is the box-to-chassis mounting. The habitation box is decoupled from the truck frame via a four-point "zero-torsion" pillow-block subframe, so the cabin moves independently as the heavy-duty Ram frame flexes off-road. In Winnebago's own footage on rough ground the camper visibly rocks relative to the cab. That is the system working, not failing. Expedition builders like EarthCruiser, Unicat, and Bliss Mobil have used variations of the same idea for years, because rigidly bolting a camper body to a flexing truck chassis is what eventually cracks cabinetry and stresses joints. Winnebago says the platform went through its OEM durability program at roughly 100,000-mile equivalent loads. Tow rating is 15,000 lb. Roof is one-piece molded fiberglass; cabinetry throughout is aluminum to dodge the swelling and delamination that plague wood RV interiors in humid environments.
Power and water are built around long off-grid stints. A 48-volt architecture carries up to roughly 15 kWh of lithium (Winnebago's marketing top end is 16.8), up to 800 W of expandable solar, dual alternators, and shore-power compatibility. The 14-day off-grid claim is qualified in trade coverage as two occupants under moderate use with no air conditioning. Fresh water is 60 gallons, grey 40, both heated and insulated. Hydronic heat runs the cabin, floors, and tank bay with auto-engagement below 45°F. Multi-zone climate covers the main cabin and cabover bunk independently. Operating range is rated −10°F to 120°F, with R-15 roof and R-12 wall insulation and a heat-recovery ventilation system Winnebago describes as a first in the RV space.
Inside, the galley runs a portable induction cooktop, stainless under-mount sink, solid-surface counters, pantry, and a 6.2 cu-ft fridge with a drawer freezer. The wet bath sits mid-camper with a Thetford cassette toilet on a sliding tray, a folding shower seat, retractable privacy screen, and overhead extraction fan. The over-cab bunk reconfigures as twin, queen, or king; the rear dinette converts to a second berth. The full-height heated rear gear garage takes van-style double doors with L-track tie-downs throughout, and dropping a dinette section opens it up for longer cargo. Connectivity is via the Winnebago Connect app for tank, power, climate, and security monitoring, with pitch-and-roll readouts for leveling and Pet Minder climate alerts. SIM-modem and Starlink integration are optional.
What Winnebago hasn't shipped publicly: a delivery window beyond "2027 model year," detailed payload and curb weight numbers, and tire, wheel, ground clearance, and approach/departure figures. The platform makes its public debut at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff in May 2026, and those numbers should follow shortly after.
